we were always willing to sacrifice.
as it was seen today.
everyone knows whats looming and all wants to make the best out of it.
even those who feels no attachment also tries to take part in it.
these shows what a bond can do.
it breaks the emotional boundaries of a person,
it forges a connection,
it gives life.
in contrast,
all these happens because
we only start to treasure when we start to lose it.
the amazing part of the human mind was exposed.

you have been warned.
for me to remember after 5 or 10 or 20 or 100 or 21098301903401348 years from this date.
just right before i stepped into the hawker centre i met LimZiHan. he was wearing a brother tee and carrying a brown zinc bag. then i met up with quite a number of brothers and two sisters, who were sitting on the chairs infront of heng lee hup chicken rice stall which was not open. they are: JoanneNg, TehYiLin, TeohYiYang, KohJianHao, AngYouZhuan, LimLiangYuan, NicholasSeah, WongShenYong, DouglasTan, BenedictLoh, LeonHu and LimJingKai. so in total (including me and zihan) there were 14 people. most of the brothers were already eating boon kee while yiyang joanne yilin and jianhao were threading the straw hearts into the ribbon which was tied to the bottle of the honeylemonginger drink. i helped them thread some and we left the hawker centre at atound 655, carrying with us around 6-8 cartons of honeylemonginger drink with us that we had prepared for all the dancers the day before. there was an evident shade of blue in the sky now.
we left the hawker centre by the right, towards sumo but not into it. we went towards the community centre and a few hdb blocks. we then crossed the overhead bridge which does not have a staircase and took the alley behind ocean cafe. we then passed the entrance to the construction side, lugging the cartons as we trudged along the pathway. as we proceeded into school through the back gate, we headed towards the lifts to bring the cartons of drinks into 404. as we approached the lift, someone called us to move back only to tell us to return to the lift, making some of us -.- . we then left the cartons at 404 and headed back to class.
fast forward to 10 oclock after a physics lesson. douglas benedict and i left class and headed straight to the dance studio, carrying the wushi stuff (2red2orange2yellow2golden lions, 4old&4new cha, shi ku and cha pants and 1 gu) down to the hall with other brothers. we remained in the hall for quite a long period of time as some of the dancers proceeded with the make up while those performing the yingjie for the ayg torch bearers went down to the foyer to practice. 8 lions , 4 chas and 1 drummer were involved. lions were bene-yiyang, lly-tianjun, jianbin-zebin , xuanhao-weiwen , yuren-linbo , terrence-lionel , ziwei-yijie and zhengde-houchin. chas were shenyong zihan leon and i. and the drummer was nicholas. after a few rounds of practices we slacked around while those in the hall continued their makeup. at around 12+ the percussionists when to back comb and "shun bian" helped solo to wear his helmet. it was quite chaotic then, and i was irritated with many of the dancers actions, such as leaving combs with gel on the hall floor and such and that only a minute sum of people were actually helping out, excluding those putting makeup. then nicholas appointed people on who to go to which level, shall not elaborate. after that laoshi came back and told us that by 145 he wanted everything to be done. in the end we dragged to 2 and he became infuriated and shouted at us, which i felt it was apt as most of the people were actually slacking and not helping out in one way or another. in the end we only practiced the yingjie a few more times, although laoshi wanted to practice the finale, and waited for the torch bearers to come as the whole school looked from all angles.
as the van approached the foyer, the sounds of wushi vacated the foyer and the lions sprang into life. after a routine lion dance, the torch relay proceeded with the representative running around the second floor. after he came back down and passed the fire to the nh representative, the wushi people ran with them from the carpark to the backgate towards the field round the field to the court up the staircase nearest to the library past the hall towards the science block up the staircase past the science block past the band room down the staircase nearest to the hod room past the alley above the foyer past the metal hall doors and to the middle of the level 2 science block. by then we were sweating like chickens and mr foo gave his speech. after all of that had happened, nicholas jihed at the foyer and we took some pictures with the torchbearers. we then speed changed into our costumes and kept all the shiku and wushi stuff and all that. after that, nicholas gave a small briefing and we handed out the honeylemonginger drink to all the dancers. after that we were seperated from our normal bus groups as the wushi people have not put on their make up. i went to bus three and all 3 buses headed for the indoor stadium for the last time.
the sec4 girls tested their makeup skills by trying to help us put make up on the bus. it was not bad actually but i think the bus uncle was abit irritated lol. my blusher, eyeshadow and biliang were all done on the bus. i also remember talking to miss kee about something, it was something on the line that laoshi was angry with us because we screwed up with our time and then near marina bay when we passed by the IR which was under construction, she was asking me why would there be a jam right now(around 3-4+). other than that i dont really remember what happened on the bus as i was busy on closing my eyes and getting my face harassed for the last time with nanhua dance cosmetics. we reached the indoor stadium in what could be called a short period of time, but more chaos was about to dawn upon us.
as we alighted from the buses at carpark f, we went up the stairs (which was beside the escalator which was not turned on) only to be stuck at the bridge, as the officers wanted to take our temperature before we were allowed to go in. luckily for us a kind officer told us to go to another temperature taking area which had 4 gantries and that saved us alot of time. we went back to carpark e and everything went smoothly there. all the dancers then proceeded to the holding area(function room 1) and awaited for further instructions/chaos.
after we entered the function room, we realised that... ... our make up was different from crescent's. some of the exco then decided it was too late to change it as half and hour to change 100 plus people's make up was impossible. from 5 to 530 was an extremely messy period. instructions were misheard, people were all messed up and the food was totally missing. the sec4 exco made some damn impromptu decisions but at least it worked out for the moment. make up was more important and priority was given to those who were at the scaffolding, while the others were requested to have their meals quick. my eyeliner was rushed through-.- those doing the makeup unfortunately had to rush through their meals and help many put on their makeup. i then told jingkai to get some of the guys to carry the props over to both gates, while i tried to finish my dinner but i realised it was too much and i ate half a packet only-.- then i put my lipstick and continued my duties. a few moments later jesper and i brought the 18 shuangrenwu gun out and placed them infront of our performance area. soon i called benedict and a few others to check their positions of their srw gun's. i was running from the function room to the gates to the performance area and back to the function room as if it was a nicely planned out running track. it really felt like time was so compressed and i hoped that i could have more time to sort out my thoughts, but there wouldn't be.
however messy or chaotic the situation was, nicholas did a final jihe before the performance. it calmed all nerves, but burst all emotions. his speech really did send waves of adrenaline through my body. this was what he said, extracted from his blog:
OKAY. NANHUA DANCERS. THIS IS MY SECOND LAST TIME I AM GONNA TALK TO YOU GUYS AS A NANHUA DANCE CHAIRMAN
I KNOW THAT THIS MORNING AND AFTERNOON, IT WAS MESSY AND MANY THINGS HAPPENED. BUT AT THIS VERY MOMENT I WANT YOU GUYS TO FORGET ABOUT ALL THE UNHAPPY THINGS THAT HAPPENED.
KE YI MA?! ( THE RESPONSE WAS LOUD)
PEOPLE MAKE MISTAKES, AND PROBLEMS DO HAPPENED.
DONT LET SUCH STUFFS AFFECT OUR DANCE OUT THERE.
WHEN THE STAGE LIGHTS ARE TURNED ON AND MUSIC STARTS, IT IS JUST THAT 5 MINUTES THAT YOU GUYS HAVE AND ALL IS OVER.
I DONT WANT MY DANCERS TO LOOK BACK ON LIFE AND SAY "I WISH I HAD"
INSTEAD I WANT MY DANCERS TO LOOK BACK ON LIFE, 10 YEARS, 20 YEARS, 30 YEARS DOWN THE ROAD AND SAY "I'M GLAD I DID"
THE CHOICE IS YOURS DANCERS. BUT I HAVE FAITH THAT YOU GUYS WILL DO A YOUR BEST OUT THERE LATER.
AND BLAH BLAH BLAH.
THEN LASTLY, THE SAME OLD USUAL STUFFS. BU GUAN ZHE ZHI WU DAO TIAO DE HAO BU HAO, WHAT I WANT IS MY DANCERS TO BE ENJOYING THEMSELVES, SMILING AND BE HAPPY OUT THERE ON STAGE.
AND YES, GOOD LUCK AND ALL THE BEST TO YOU GUYS.
I LOVE YOU GUYS.
this really got me into the mood as waves of cheers echoed through the enclosed funtion room. then more waves of adrenaline shot through my body as we did the dance cheer with much emotion. that really changed my (and i think most of us) mindset of the whole occasion being messy and i was focused on delivering a good show. not long after, the scaffolding people had to standby at their respective gates.
as we went to our gates, we started to do some light stretching and did several brotherhoods/sisterhoods/gayhoods redridinghood robinhood whatever hood. then, for no particular reason, the sec4 guys from my gate flew across the operation room alley to the other gate, where the other sec4 guys were. and for no particular reason, the moment we reached there, they had just put their hands in for a brotherhood. so coincidental. the guys there were crying t.t . we then all put our hands together and shouted a damn bloody loud 'brotherhood!'. after that we all flew back again to our gates and went out for the gymnastics part.
i was quite surprised to see a substantial number of empty seats in the stadium. my scaffold people (from nanhua:jesper darren and dijin, from crescent:lynn and regina) then pushed the scaffold to the circle and waited for the music to start. before the performance, laoshi came in and talked to us about some changes for the people on top of the scaffolding. not long after the music started, at it marked the first item for our last performance.
firstly the scaffolding turned one round, then waited for all the gymnasts to clear before moving to the sides. after a while longer all the scaffolding went into the middle forming one straight line, hiding the gymnasts in it. the scaffolding then seperated to the sides once more 2 by 2. after that it was the 3-2-3 formation and the scaffolding was supposed to turn clockwise for a few moments. the scaffolding then went to the back and formed one straight row at the last white marking and pushed them forward to the middle marking. after the gymnasts bowed we pushed the scaffoldings to the extreme sides and went back to our gates.
once we got back inside the gates we were joined with the rollerbladers, pinkhiphop people, the primary school children and at my gate, the girls from crescent dance. it was damn packed but shenyong zihan and i kept warmupping and then spammed yokoyoko and the bai hua you on our arms. baihuayou was much more effective. then (ithink) the emcee said something about the national anthem and everyone at my gate started to stand still and got ready for the national anthem. and once the music started, everyone was shouting. it was as if someone told us to shout, someone told us to keep quiet. it just felt that everyone was on the same wavelength, everyone had their mindsets all on this ayg and that we were one big family. as i shouted through the song, my emotions got over me and i started crying as this would be the last time i would sing the national anthem as a nanhua dancer with the nhds family. althought the song ended, my emotions had not relented although i was trying very hard to hold back my tears. im grateful to luhong, yanting, jeslynn and amelia who were at my gate as they tried to calm me down. then, as i tried to control myself, the roller bladers went out. then the hiphoppers. the roller bladers came back in while the ayg theme song was being played. as it reached the rapping part, my body told my mind that it would be soon before the scaffolding people would go out with the primary school kids. and after around a minute, we were back on stage again.
we made our way back to the scaffolding and stood like statues, awaiting for the queue to form a straight row infront of the stage, which was when after the 3 little violinists completed their trio part. as the "garden in the city" music rolled on, i started to bai tai shen behind the scaffolding. i prayed for the best for shuangrenwu and prayed that everything will turn out well. not long after, the violin part started and i was more than ready for my last dance. the scaffolding slowly made their way infront of their stage and as the little performers ended their show, Asia's Zest started to begin.
the disco ball (lol) descended from the sky and the emcee gave some introduction, which was something like that: "The shining mirror ball held by two dancers descending from the ceiling shows that there is always a silver lining in adverse times and there is always hope for a bright future." as merrien and glenda slowly came down from the flying stage, the music that was played through my mind a thousand times was blasted through the crazy speakers of the singapore indoor stadium.
the girls went into the the audience's vision after passing the second scaffolding and formed two rows on each side of the flying stage. a series of waves soon followed and then they spreaded out and became 1 large block. the kelongs also came out at this point of time. while the girls did their actions (dont really know what are they, was always hiding behind the scaffold), the guys trudged slowly towards the centre, moving a step back after every 3, as if something was holding them back. as this slow music portion slowly ended, all the girls gathered in front of the 2 middle scaffolding and waited for the music. when the time was right, all of them turned simultaneously and then stretched their arms at their maximum length, with all 100+ girls creating a magnificent shape of a fan. at the same time, 4 green bamboos on each side spreaded out evenly.
tianjun tuo ju yingying and on the stage, xuanlin zhan on jianhao's jianbang. it was a totally awesome sight. that signified the end of the first part of the dance and the music took a dramatic change into a fast-paced one which was 2 times faster than the music before it.
the girls spreaded out into 1 big block, this time covering most of the space given to them. the guys rushed towards the gate and dragged the green bamboos out. as the 12 of us there each took 1 greenbamboo each, we all waited for the part where the 2 girls met up with one another and posed for 2 or 4 pais. this wait was only about 15 seconds long before all the guys carrying the green bamboo came out from both sides of the stage, before running across the block of girls, whereby it looks like a criss-cross movement. i was on the same lane as douglas, which was in between the secondlast and thirdlast row of the block. as i was running, i looked at the diagonal line we formed. it was one of the nicest i had ever seen in these 8 months of ayg training. it was totally straight, no one was out of place and all the green bamboos were at 90 degrees. i smiled for a brief moment before running behind the scaffolding and throwing the green bamboo behind the ayg flag. before, i found the run tiring. but on that day, it was nothing. i was extremely focused on the dance and was hardly panting. but once i placed my green bamboo down, it was almost immediate that i exited inbetween the third and fourth scaffolding to the zhanjianbang position, which also meant that the shuangrenwu part was arriving.
i went through the kelong and made my way up tse yu and yewchern, the 2 people whose shoulders were terrorised by me for the past 8 months. it started out as a squating position but after the girls xia di, the nine of us (from left: liangyuan, benedict, zebin, kaiwei(replaced nicholas because of an unfortunate lung problem), jianhao, tianjun, jianbin, jingkai and i) stood straight up, holding the 2 green bamboos beside us as support. after the girls put their hands up, crossed them, laid on the floor, swung their arms several times and swiveled into a standing position, the nine of us made our way down to the cold floor of the indoor stadium. the moment i landed, both of my feet were stung in pain from the impact of the fall. but it recovered within a second and my eyes were marked on the next position. the girls in the block made their way out and what was presented infront of me was a piece of grey floor. my last shuangrenwu was about to commence.
we ran to just a little behind the middle white line and did a pose. then we turned and walked forward a few steps and posed again. after that we circled our shuangrenwu partners (from left: daphine, angeline, celia, kelly, joey, shuzhen(replaced evelyn because evelyn was quarrantined for the practice dates and thought she couldn't dance), evelyn(replaced rachel because of some unfortunate problem), yuting and michelle.) and prepared for the tiaobei. i placed my hands on her shoulders and pushed myself over and was in time for the pose on the ground. we(the9guys) then walked towards the 2 green bamboos and did a back somer, and posed at the 7th pai of that particular bapai. then we circled our partners again and prepared for the ferris wheel. after i flipped michelle over she did a hou yao and then she turned back in for the feiji. that was my most successful one in my 8 months of trying to do it. there were no disruptions, my arms were in the correct position after one try, she was in a comfortable position, she felt so light and the timing was perfectly fine. after she was flipped down from my shoulder, we did some actions and proceeded forward, where we hid right infront of the audience. my last shuangrenwu was a success! we took the long bamboos in our hands and prepared for the next formation.
after 3 bapais of the change in the tune of the music, the shuangrenwu people went out and joined the block for the long bamboo part. left, right turn ha. left right turn ha. sha sha sha sha cirlce 2 hei ha rao 2 3 ha hold 6 7 8. another wave proceeded after that. all those ha sha hei ha was the loudest i ever shouted. i cant even remember if i went zhao xia or not, but who really cares lol. 1 bapai before the change in tune we turned and raised our bamboos in a position that was parallel to the ground. then a series of xilians followed which i think would be very nice from the view of the audience if everyone was on beat. after that we did 2 diu guns and then went into the next formation. we moused into groups of 12 before expanding into a small circle and then went back to the ground kneeling. we pulled and pushed the bamboos then stood up again to run in a circle. i did not run, however, as i assisted jianbin in his tuoju with yuting. it was another successful attempt and after 4 bapais, the shuangrenwu people hid again and prepared for the last part -- aeroplane.
we exited by swinging our right hand and pressing our palms down. after grabbing her leg and the part above right above her ankle, she flew. i did one of my highest aeroplanes ever and i was stunned myself lol. it was caught on television! jianhao says my face looks like stone but i dont really care. she then landed maybe softly but i dont really know and we did a final pose. a grand final pose for my grand last performance for such a grand occasion. as we exited to the gates, i told michelle with a smiling face that it was damn good. then i told her there was no more shuangrenwu. i felt happy and sad at the same time. i was glad because we did a pretty job. but i was devastated as the last shuangrenwu meant that i was about to leave nhds already. after i entered the gate and ran over to the other gate which i was supposed to come out for finale, i started to cry once again. this time it was worse. my lungs were desperate for air for quite a long time and it made me feel worse. but once again i calmed myself down as we were on standby for the last dance with all the performers.
euphoria had set into all the performers and everyone were as if they were on esctacy. no matter how messy it looked liked, we all were one team as we danced the same dance together.
throughout the whole dance, i was shouting at the top of my voice until one period of time i realised that no sound was coming out from my mouth, most probably that my voice box got screwed. tears slowly streaked down the corners of my eyes after i realised i was dancing my last dance as a nh dancer.
This is the time,
this is is the moment,
we believe our dreams will come true!
hand in hand, we strive to do our best!
asia's youth, we strive to be the best!
then there was this parade of atheltes, raising of the ayg flag, lighting of cauldron and the damn damn damn long ayg speech lol. after that the audience left and the stage became our land.
we started off by ganging frasia the moment it appeared infront of our eyes. after that we ganged(k not really maybe just jumping with him) nathan hartono and lian kim selby was watching at one side looking lost lol. followed by we placed our hands on each other's shoulders and running around the floor like mad chickens. then nicholas jihed us and we did heiheiheiha! for quite a number of times. the sec4's made the inner circle while the rest surrounded us. the running and heiheiheiha can be found on youtube. afterwhich all of asia's zest performers gathered at the front of the performance area and shouted "laoshi, wo men ai ni!" i almost cried because laoshi really played an integral role in my 4 years in nhds. lastly we took quite a number of group photos and stretched our time until _ was ANGRY. later on in the function room _ let loose her ANGER and tried to pull - into an angry mood by saying " - is also very upset about yr behaviour". she (-) gave a "did i even say that" face. LOL.
we then left the indoor stadium with our props in the mingyujiang truck.
once we reached school the props were left at the sac.
wont elaborate much on the ending.
nicholas tried to debrief but somehow or rather it was unnaturally noisy and bitchy late at night.
took some pictures with some dancers.
the sec4's stoned at the foyer for quite a long time before we slowly walked to the mrt, under the empty sky.
in the end, i cabbed home with shenyong, darren and liangyuan.
this was what happened on 29062009. 1 week has passed since its end and its time i accept it as a memory and concentrate on my studies. however i would like to say that i wish all the dancers a good life ahead and good luck to all of your upcoming performances. i would also want to thank my batch for being supportive and extremely fun.
this ayg journey,
i will never forget.
if u read all of those above, i think ure crazy cause its so bloody long and boring for you. but anyway thank you for reading it ;D.
seriously its super boring

firstly the scaffolding turned one round, then waited for all the gymnasts to clear before moving to the sides. after a while longer all the scaffolding went into the middle forming one straight line, hiding the gymnasts in it. the scaffolding then seperated to the sides once more 2 by 2. after that it was the 3-2-3 formation and the scaffolding was supposed to turn clockwise for a few moments. the scaffolding then went to the back and formed one straight row at the last white marking and pushed them forward to the middle marking. after the gymnasts bowed we pushed the scaffoldings to the extreme sides and went back to our gates.
once we got back inside the gates we were joined with the rollerbladers, pinkhiphop people, the primary school children and at my gate, the girls from crescent dance. it was damn packed but shenyong zihan and i kept warmupping and then spammed yokoyoko and the bai hua you on our arms. baihuayou was much more effective. then (ithink) the emcee said something about the national anthem and everyone at my gate started to stand still and got ready for the national anthem. and once the music started, everyone was shouting. it was as if someone told us to shout, someone told us to keep quiet. it just felt that everyone was on the same wavelength, everyone had their mindsets all on this ayg and that we were one big family. as i shouted through the song, my emotions got over me and i started crying as this would be the last time i would sing the national anthem as a nanhua dancer with the nhds family. althought the song ended, my emotions had not relented although i was trying very hard to hold back my tears. im grateful to luhong, yanting, jeslynn and amelia who were at my gate as they tried to calm me down. then, as i tried to control myself, the roller bladers went out. then the hiphoppers. the roller bladers came back in while the ayg theme song was being played. as it reached the rapping part, my body told my mind that it would be soon before the scaffolding people would go out with the primary school kids. and after around a minute, we were back on stage again.
we made our way back to the scaffolding and stood like statues, awaiting for the queue to form a straight row infront of the stage, which was when after the 3 little violinists completed their trio part. as the "garden in the city" music rolled on, i started to bai tai shen behind the scaffolding. i prayed for the best for shuangrenwu and prayed that everything will turn out well. not long after, the violin part started and i was more than ready for my last dance. the scaffolding slowly made their way infront of their stage and as the little performers ended their show, Asia's Zest started to begin.
the disco ball (lol) descended from the sky and the emcee gave some introduction, which was something like that: "The shining mirror ball held by two dancers descending from the ceiling shows that there is always a silver lining in adverse times and there is always hope for a bright future." as merrien and glenda slowly came down from the flying stage, the music that was played through my mind a thousand times was blasted through the crazy speakers of the singapore indoor stadium.
the girls went into the the audience's vision after passing the second scaffolding and formed two rows on each side of the flying stage. a series of waves soon followed and then they spreaded out and became 1 large block. the kelongs also came out at this point of time. while the girls did their actions (dont really know what are they, was always hiding behind the scaffold), the guys trudged slowly towards the centre, moving a step back after every 3, as if something was holding them back. as this slow music portion slowly ended, all the girls gathered in front of the 2 middle scaffolding and waited for the music. when the time was right, all of them turned simultaneously and then stretched their arms at their maximum length, with all 100+ girls creating a magnificent shape of a fan. at the same time, 4 green bamboos on each side spreaded out evenly.
tianjun tuo ju yingying and on the stage, xuanlin zhan on jianhao's jianbang. it was a totally awesome sight. that signified the end of the first part of the dance and the music took a dramatic change into a fast-paced one which was 2 times faster than the music before it.
the girls spreaded out into 1 big block, this time covering most of the space given to them. the guys rushed towards the gate and dragged the green bamboos out. as the 12 of us there each took 1 greenbamboo each, we all waited for the part where the 2 girls met up with one another and posed for 2 or 4 pais. this wait was only about 15 seconds long before all the guys carrying the green bamboo came out from both sides of the stage, before running across the block of girls, whereby it looks like a criss-cross movement. i was on the same lane as douglas, which was in between the secondlast and thirdlast row of the block. as i was running, i looked at the diagonal line we formed. it was one of the nicest i had ever seen in these 8 months of ayg training. it was totally straight, no one was out of place and all the green bamboos were at 90 degrees. i smiled for a brief moment before running behind the scaffolding and throwing the green bamboo behind the ayg flag. before, i found the run tiring. but on that day, it was nothing. i was extremely focused on the dance and was hardly panting. but once i placed my green bamboo down, it was almost immediate that i exited inbetween the third and fourth scaffolding to the zhanjianbang position, which also meant that the shuangrenwu part was arriving.
i went through the kelong and made my way up tse yu and yewchern, the 2 people whose shoulders were terrorised by me for the past 8 months. it started out as a squating position but after the girls xia di, the nine of us (from left: liangyuan, benedict, zebin, kaiwei(replaced nicholas because of an unfortunate lung problem), jianhao, tianjun, jianbin, jingkai and i) stood straight up, holding the 2 green bamboos beside us as support. after the girls put their hands up, crossed them, laid on the floor, swung their arms several times and swiveled into a standing position, the nine of us made our way down to the cold floor of the indoor stadium. the moment i landed, both of my feet were stung in pain from the impact of the fall. but it recovered within a second and my eyes were marked on the next position. the girls in the block made their way out and what was presented infront of me was a piece of grey floor. my last shuangrenwu was about to commence.
we ran to just a little behind the middle white line and did a pose. then we turned and walked forward a few steps and posed again. after that we circled our shuangrenwu partners (from left: daphine, angeline, celia, kelly, joey, shuzhen(replaced evelyn because evelyn was quarrantined for the practice dates and thought she couldn't dance), evelyn(replaced rachel because of some unfortunate problem), yuting and michelle.) and prepared for the tiaobei. i placed my hands on her shoulders and pushed myself over and was in time for the pose on the ground. we(the9guys) then walked towards the 2 green bamboos and did a back somer, and posed at the 7th pai of that particular bapai. then we circled our partners again and prepared for the ferris wheel. after i flipped michelle over she did a hou yao and then she turned back in for the feiji. that was my most successful one in my 8 months of trying to do it. there were no disruptions, my arms were in the correct position after one try, she was in a comfortable position, she felt so light and the timing was perfectly fine. after she was flipped down from my shoulder, we did some actions and proceeded forward, where we hid right infront of the audience. my last shuangrenwu was a success! we took the long bamboos in our hands and prepared for the next formation.
after 3 bapais of the change in the tune of the music, the shuangrenwu people went out and joined the block for the long bamboo part. left, right turn ha. left right turn ha. sha sha sha sha cirlce 2 hei ha rao 2 3 ha hold 6 7 8. another wave proceeded after that. all those ha sha hei ha was the loudest i ever shouted. i cant even remember if i went zhao xia or not, but who really cares lol.
LOL.
we then left the indoor stadium with our props in the mingyujiang truck.
once we reached school the props were left at the sac.
wont elaborate much on the ending.
nicholas tried to debrief but somehow or rather it was unnaturally noisy and bitchy late at night.
took some pictures with some dancers.
the sec4's stoned at the foyer for quite a long time before we slowly walked to the mrt, under the empty sky.
in the end, i cabbed home with shenyong, darren and liangyuan.
this was what happened on 29062009. 1 week has passed since its end and its time i accept it as a memory and concentrate on my studies. however i would like to say that i wish all the dancers a good life ahead and good luck to all of your upcoming performances. i would also want to thank my batch for being supportive and extremely fun.
this ayg journey,
i will never forget.
if u read all of those above, i think ure crazy cause its so bloody long and boring for you. but anyway thank you for reading it ;D.

nhds journey
and ironically,
my first post is when i just left this family.
i kind of regret not creating one much earlier in my life, whereby i had the time, the clear memory to type down every single minute event that happened in this amazing journey. but since time spares no one, i should make use of whatever i have now to pen down how important Nan Hua Dance Society means to me in these 3 to 4 years of my life.
2. a 2 minute decision, a 2 day discussion, a struggle between 2 ccas. i have been naturally drafted to the choir as my primary school cca was choir-.-. k 4 years ago the amount of guys in nh choir was pathetic(although it is still now) and i had an overwhelming urge to change my cca. being 13 and not taking ccas seriously, and being easily influenced, 10 of the boys in my class (110) decided to gl and join dance society. so i followed suit and there were some complications when i changed my cca. so from then on i was part of this family.
the first few gym practices was .... never had i expected to be doing ? number of pushups from practice one all the way to march, where the sec4s then (si aun, yihang, etc batch) were a terror to us. there were these strap "games", chair "games" and i still remember during one of the march holiday practices, we were made to run around the school 10 times and after every round, we had to do 10 pushups. it was taking a toll of our lives as we were only sec1s. but this was not gone through alone. beside me were 21 of my batchmates, of which 7 of them would slowly leave this society.
in april was my batch's first performance: speech day 2006. the video is still on youtube, and from what i see is a truly memorable experience. laoshi placed faith on us and blooded us on the school's stage, giving us the chance to taste the joy and sorrows of performances. our first was 2006's sec4's last. even though i did not know them, there was a tinge of sadness lingering in my heart when they said their farewell speech in the dance studio. it was after that then i realised that the dance society was not just a place of terror.
soon we were training for ndp 2006(the last time ndp would be held at the national stadium) with the whole school's sec1s and sec2s then. it was my biggest performance ever, no matter how small my figure was then. there were practices in the field opposite the school field, where idiots like us would catch frogs and disscet them and defy missyeo's orders and instructions. it was also the first time i was doing zhanjianbang. it started like shit whereby i was scared of falling but in the end i got my grip and managed to stand straight. 6 months of continuous practices certainly forged a relationship between the seniors and i. i managed to make friends with quite a number of people and by the end of ndp2006, i was bonded with the society. it was also around this period where some of my batch guys left.
after august nine 2006, a timetable of performances soon followed. openhouse, cca extravaganza and the much anticipated singapore youth festival 2007. for both the openhouse and cca extravaganza, we did the nanhua taoquan a few rounds on each day leaving us much battered at the end of the day. but what was more important was the build up to the syf.
in november, 2 weeks of continuous practices from 8 to 6 would make me feel much more bonded to the society. it started off with laoshi seperating us into 2 groups, namely the chinese and modern dance. i was dropped into the modern dance and started training everyday. i had a part called xiaohuaidan with douglas solo zhiyong joanna etc etc. this was also the first time laoshi directly scolded and praised me. i injured my right knee by knocking it on my head(ya damn lame) and laoshi was furious as i was not careful. there was also one moment where linda swung the metal pole onto my head-.- as the days passed by, the dance got more complicated and i got involved in another zhanjianbang again, now on top of weicong. this (Contradictions) is one my my favourite dances as it required much much much much energy but not much technique for the part at the block =p(atleast for me). everytime i finish this dance i feel a sense of satisfaction. as the practices slowly dwindled, the tension increased and after the dance at the ucc, euphoria swarmed our minds. 2007's sec4's last dance ended with a blast and we managed to attain a gwh, which was a nice incentive. in the coming may we performed this syf dance at ucc for the school's cultural potpurri, but not all sec4's participated in it.
then the 2007 sec3 exco took over. many unfortunate events happened, be it deliberate, accidental, through miscommunication or just plain stupidity, it has all happened. and the good thing is, everyone picked themselves up from this massive carnage to move on and continue this amazing legacy. as the young days passed, we have slowly grown to become 15 and was largely a senior in this society.
the year started with my first ever caiqing, which lasted for more than an hour and my hands almost rotted from playing the cha. all in all we made a mess from all the cabbage and madarin oranges thrown but it was fun lol. a few days later was the chinese new year performances. it was quite fun dancing on the school stage once again, and this is another performance which i can replay the song in my head a thousand times.
then it was the sec3 guys2008(us then) with the sec4girls2008 speech day performance. it was their last performance. its until now then i realised i had danced every last dance my seniors had danced in. i feel quite blessed lol. the practices were great, there were not much screw ups, but it was screwed up in the end by ____ . i dont have any hatred of them now as people make mistakes occasionally, but there was a ball of fire in my heart on that day when they screwed the music up. but since it happened so long ago already, i say peace :D
after speechday 2008 was ndp 2008. another big performance to add to my list. however i admit i personally do not really like this dance, nor i have excellent memories of this particular segment. this is because the whole process was stained with numerous conflicts within and between batches. a tense atmosphere always seemed to linger and although i was not involved(i think), seeing clashes like that was certainly saddening as it was affecting not just the whole society but laoshi too. however, the dance itself was also not very spectacular from the reviews i heard from my relatives. i too, did not feel as satisfied as i was when i did the modern dance where lots of energy was required to make the dance look nice. maybe because it was a mass dance, and small details were not really pressed on, but i dont really know. if i could have a say, ndp2008 is one period of time i want to forget. yes i made some new friends, yes we had a great time together, but the feeling was totally different. the way we moved, talked, acted, dance, it differed by a lot. the negatives overpowered the boons by a mile.
it was also this period of time when the sec3 2008 exco was selected and personally i did not feel ready to be the head of props. during the period of ndp2008 i tried my very best, but without the help from my brothers and sisters, i could not have done anything. we washed the damn headbands, fixed countless props, ferried them to and fro and almost lost one batch of props on the bus. it was lucky on that day i bothered to count, if not i think i will emo and emo and emo and emo and . . . the support i got from my batch is truly sincere.
then it was teacher's day 2008. it started like bullcrap, with some fiesty disagreements here and there and everywhere but in the end we managed to iron it out in a short period of time. the whole sec3 2008 batch put in their best effort for this once in a lifetime batchdance and though it was quite stupid, but it was fun. really fun. this dance really epitomised what nicholas always said, its somewhere along this line "i dont care what happens bla bla bla bla, i just want you guys to have fun". it was also this dance which bonded our pretty distant batch all along and made us a stronger group of crazy people.
then then then it was open house. shall not elaborate too much on this, but one thing i cant forget is that i landed on my head from a considerable height on the parade square. not blaming anyone here, but it hurt. lol. lucky the sjab guy was there.
there was the dance camp cum sec4 ord at the end of the year and we had the photo montage, redcarpet and at the end we sang yujian with remodelled lyrics. it was quite a solemn affair, but once the camp started, it was worlds apart from what happened moments ago. the dance society went ~ ~ ~
after the bumpy 2008 was the arrival of 2009.
2009.
the year the sec4s will leave.
the year my name as a nanhua dancer will be taken away.
the year where all performances were special.
firstly was the dianjing. 2 new golden lions that had to be awaken. a ceremony that brings life to the lions. it was one of the most spectacular and grandest lion dance performances i had seen with my own eyes as the lions were brought to life. it was followed by a lion dance performance where 8 lions crowded the stage, bringing the festive mood round nanhua. then we proceeded down to woodgrove secondary for a lion dance performance and it was greatly appreciated by the staff there. that was extremely important to us as it is morale boosting to know that what you have performed have drawn praise from the public.
then it was speech day. the guys put up another lion dance performance but what was so special about this was that the sec4 girls really put up a great show. it was my first time looking at my own batch perform in front of me, and as a audience, i thought it was fantastic.
then,
of no reason, of no warning, of no signs of precaution,
we prepared for the last dance.
from november 2008 to june 2009, in this period of 7 months, NanHua Dance Society prepared for one of its greatest milestones ever.
the 2 weeks practice was very very messy. we were denied space, denied time, stripped off practices and did EXTREEEEMEMEMELY little in those two weeks. in addition, i was dreading the asian youth games as it would be held on the 29th of june and is very close to olevels. furthermore, at that time i thought we should be heading towards the singapore youth festival to let the sec2's gain experience and learn how to lead the next batch of dancers to the 2011 syf. the introduction of ayg was like a piece of shit, where there were no positives to look upon to. the sec4s also had little disagreements. but we accepted reality and put in all our effort into this dance. i thought this dance would not be memorable in any other way.
then laoshi picked 8 others and me for shuangrenwu.
at first i thought it was like some joke or something. my size is so small, im so bloody thin that i look that im undernourished and have been taking drugs and laoshi wants me to do shuangrenwu. i was not even 50kg(and is still not now) and for the past 3 years, i have always been the one on top (ndp 06, openhouse06, syf07, cny08) and now i have to be the base. i started out very badly, often failing and causing michelle to fall, and i feel terribly bad after each failed attempt. every time we fail its always because of me. the tiaobei part was no better either. i cant seem to jump over people and i made her wait and wait for quite a long time before i could tiao her. even until april 2009 these events kept happenning. but she still had faith in me and i deeply appreciate it. it kept my confidence from dampening and spurred me to get stronger and do better in shuangrenwu.
in addition, between these few months, the making and maintainence of props was damn tedious. we had to make the whole bunch of short and long bamboos and had to buy a hell lot of stoppers and black tape. when the new props came, there were a lack of it and i was lucky that the new sec3exco had already been formed and they helped to make several of them.
the girls part was also full of energy and power. it had all the attributes to what could lead to a great dance for both performers and spectators; a series of bursts of energy to keep the audience panting and it was visual and eye-catching. during the practices, as i look from the back, there were some times that were really good and was filled with zest. but there were also times where megority of the people slacken, missing out on the minute stuff which makes the dance so captivating.
but before we know it, the june holiday practices started and dawned upon us.
the first week of holiday practices was slightly marred by the intrusion of remedials but the spirit was still there. we had to do a filming on friday and unfortunately for us, the sun was relentless and scorched the parade square. throughout the filiming the dancers were jumping around trying to cool their feet even it was only for a fraction of a second. the dancers still tried to give their all and i felt that was what all was needed. the urge to perform.
then came a 2 week break before the last week of the holidays.
it started out with the first 2 days in school for us to get back into tip top condition before heading towards the indoor stadium. it was those 2 days that i finally got my shuangrenwu up and running. i was seriously damn happy lol!!>!>!>! cause it was almost 100% success rate from then on.(i know im noob but what can u expect from such a weak guy). we proceeded to the indoor stadium to accustomise ourselves to the surroundings. then as it went by, after the practices, after the preview, the big day.
no matter how messy, how screwed, how cocked up the starting and ending was, all that mattered was before, during, and right after the performance. i am truly grateful to all those we tried to settle things down, of which nicholas played a very important part in it, and that at the holding area there were so many of us supporting each other to the very last minute. i got really emotional and im thankful to all those who tried to calm me down.
the performance was utterly fantastic and scintillating. but it all happened too fast. right after the dance was the finale and was another very emotional moment for me. i lost my voice while shouting the lyrics of the song and tears streaked down my face while i was dancing. this ayg journey is one i will never forget. never ever.
above was a brief summary of my dance journey in 4 years. i came into dance unintentionally and went past the greatest period of my life ever. if i went into detail, i could have taken 4 to 5 days to just finish typing. what was above is just for me to remember what happened when i grow older. what i am going to type below is more important to me than what has all been posted up there.
in these 4 years, i met various personalities, countless people and numerous emotions. what im going to type below will be people whom i think will be very very very hard to erase them from my memory.
laoshi! a person who brings the best out of you and keeps this society together. he is more than just a fatherly figure, he is someone whom i really respect, or maybe to the state of worship. i am really grateful that he is the instructor of nanhua dance society.
dan! though i rarely interact with him, i feel that he is a very nice person and also draws respect from everyone.
si aun! he is very scary when we first came in.
yihang! a person of great knowledge and interactive skills which has been of great help to the sec4's this year. another inspirational guy.
junyang, cheeyew and joanna! these 3 people was why i was pulled towards dance. junyang and cheeyew with their trademark speeches and joanna was like a big sister to me.
peixuan and alyssa! these 2 crazy people that also went for the china trip have amazing personalities and although they are crazy, they care for you too.
thats all for the seniors.
for this current batch of dancers, i feel very blessed to know all of you all. as a senior, i would like to wish all the juniors all the best in their journey of dance and i hope you all would enjoy this 4 years in nan hua dance society. and i continue with my dedications, starting from the 1s,
jesper/jasper? lol sorry i dont know how to spell yr name. for a sec1, you have been responsible in your duties and its heartwarming to see that some sec1s already have the passion for dance.
darren! ya i know im being biased cause these 2 sec1s are at my scaffolding but to darren, you can go a long long way.
michelle! my shuangrenwu partner =p for all your support, i must thank you again. i wish you all the best in your life. this ayg dance was so memorable was partly because of the shuangrenwu part.
jingkai! try to control your temper although i havent tasted it. if you can make yourself calm down during certain periods, you can acheive alot of great things. those things might not capture everyone's attention, but at least you would feel good from your acheivement.
and now, my batch.
to all sisters: we all might still not be very close yet, nor may we have the chance to do it, but it is great to know all of you. this 4 years wouldn't be the same without you all. batch 93 is called batch 93 because all 20 of you are present. i hope that we would meet up some day for some meeting or outing ten years down the road.
to all brothers: all these 6oclock meetings, pants-pulling, water-drinking, toilet-going, etc etc things have been a part of my life already. i wouldn't know who to hang out with if i didn't know all of you. no matter how different we are, no matter how emo we were, we still managed to come together and become as 1 team. we pumped 100 together before. we hawkered together before. we danced/whacked together before. we took gay pictures together before. we "piang" and "thankyou" and "roll" together before. we brotherhood together before. all these small little things can never be forgotten in my life. as they are truly unique, truly special, truly exceptional. may we be brothers for life. for those single dedications, i think i leave it for the Bb.
okay this post is finally done. yay!

my first post is when i just left this family.
i kind of regret not creating one much earlier in my life, whereby i had the time, the clear memory to type down every single minute event that happened in this amazing journey. but since time spares no one, i should make use of whatever i have now to pen down how important Nan Hua Dance Society means to me in these 3 to 4 years of my life.
2. a 2 minute decision, a 2 day discussion, a struggle between 2 ccas. i have been naturally drafted to the choir as my primary school cca was choir-.-. k 4 years ago the amount of guys in nh choir was pathetic(although it is still now) and i had an overwhelming urge to change my cca. being 13 and not taking ccas seriously, and being easily influenced, 10 of the boys in my class (110) decided to gl and join dance society. so i followed suit and there were some complications when i changed my cca. so from then on i was part of this family.
the first few gym practices was .... never had i expected to be doing ? number of pushups from practice one all the way to march, where the sec4s then (si aun, yihang, etc batch) were a terror to us. there were these strap "games", chair "games" and i still remember during one of the march holiday practices, we were made to run around the school 10 times and after every round, we had to do 10 pushups. it was taking a toll of our lives as we were only sec1s. but this was not gone through alone. beside me were 21 of my batchmates, of which 7 of them would slowly leave this society.
in april was my batch's first performance: speech day 2006. the video is still on youtube, and from what i see is a truly memorable experience. laoshi placed faith on us and blooded us on the school's stage, giving us the chance to taste the joy and sorrows of performances. our first was 2006's sec4's last. even though i did not know them, there was a tinge of sadness lingering in my heart when they said their farewell speech in the dance studio. it was after that then i realised that the dance society was not just a place of terror.
soon we were training for ndp 2006(the last time ndp would be held at the national stadium) with the whole school's sec1s and sec2s then. it was my biggest performance ever, no matter how small my figure was then. there were practices in the field opposite the school field, where idiots like us would catch frogs and disscet them and defy missyeo's orders and instructions. it was also the first time i was doing zhanjianbang. it started like shit whereby i was scared of falling but in the end i got my grip and managed to stand straight.
